HISTORY
By 1999, a fair number of competitive curlers were tumbling into the ranks of the senior/masters category, so Rod Matheson decided it was an appropriate time to start a league where each team would put up a significant entry fee. Money would be awarded for each game won and the champion would be the team which won the most money. By the fourth year, the size of the Fall League was capped at 24 teams. Rod was the League’s only convenor until 2016.
In May 2018, Rod Matheson passed away. Former, current and future participants are grateful for Rod’s vision and commitment to the Ottawa and District Senior League. Rod was well known in the Ottawa area as a teacher at Laurentian High School, as a multiple banner-winning curling champion, as a past President and Life Member of the Ottawa Curling Club, as a long-time member of the Royal Ottawa Golf Club, as a curling mentor, and as a gentleman. He will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.
As of 2018, the Fall League winners will be awarded the Rod Matheson Memorial Trophy, as our permanent tribute to Rod.
